Gem City Roller Derby Begins First Ever Recreational Season

After celebrating its tenth competitive year as Dayton’s only Women’s Flat Track Derby Association team, Gem City Roller Derby announced that it will add off-season recreational play to the schedule. Rec season will begin on September 11, 2016. The league divided its skaters evenly into three recreational teams who will play each other in a series of games during the competitive off-season.

 

Over the course of the recr season, the Bully Frogs, Snark Attack, and Murder Squad, will play a series of six games on Sundays at Orbit Fun Center (5001 Nebraska Avenue, Huber Heights). First whistle is at 6pm on the following dates:


September 11, 2016: Snark Attack vs Bully Frogs
October 9, 2016: Murder Squad vs Bully Frogs
November 13, 2016: Snark Attack vs Murder Squad
January 8, 2017: Bully Frogs vs Snark Attack
February 12, 2017: Murder Squad vs Snark Attack
March 12, 2017: Bully Frogs vs Murder Squad
 

Doors open at 5:30 for spectators. Tickets are $5.00 at the door, and children under 8 years old are free. While seating will be available, spectators who wish to sit track-side are encouraged to bring folding chairs.

 

Meg Overman, Gem City skater and coach of the Bully Frogs, states, “GCRD has 60 skaters now, so this is a chance for our fans to come see their favorites from the competitive travel teams take the track with our brand new talent. It’ll be a blast!”
